The basic orbital cutters, specially designed and developed to allow extreme precision in the control of the cut penetration, consisted of a base clamp/ring, three diamond wire pulleys (one powered, one free run and one tension and length compensator) and an orbital feeding system. All functions were designed to be hydraulically driven from a surface HPU or WROV.
These machines were utilize for the cutting of an UW Xmas tree connector and of a lifting platform Pad Ear on the surface.
Since 2005 orbital cutters have been
used for maintenance on several Cracking Towers in refineries in the US and Singapore.
