This particular cutting technique was developed as a solution for
decommissioning structures where the stability of the cut structure is a main factor. The DWCM feeds into
approximately 50% of the cut on the horizontal plane, then cuts vertically for a height previously decided and finally completes the cut on the horizontal. This allows for a jacket to be cut whilst insuring that it will not topple until it is actually pulled over, as demonstrated
successfully in May 2005, when CUT-UK completed the two
Rig to Reef Projects.
