The Tyra West and East platforms, operated by Maersk Oil, have experienced some subsidence during their operational life such that the boat fenders were now below, instead of above, sea level. Because of the potential danger to supply vessels serving the platforms it was decided to remove the fenders flush with the platform legs.
| The target sizes that required cutting ranged between 813mm to 457mm with some sections being grout filled. Because of the location of the fenders access was problematic in some cases. However, the versatility of the CUT DWCM’s was such that solutions were easily found. There were, in total, 53 separate cutting operations carried out by CUT to complete the removal of the six redundant fenders. In an e-mail sent to the CUT Engineering Manager, the Bluestream Project Manager, Mr. Mark Waltman, wrote:
“Dear Matteo, I would like to thank you for the good cooperation during the Maersk project. We are very pleased with your performance during the last two months. Personally I was really surprised about the clear cut your DWCM made and I am sure we will contact your company in the future again. ………… Can you please pass this message thru to everybody who worked on this project and made the project such a success!”
